Taramosalata (Fish roe salad - meze)

Photo taken from Athinorama Umami Taramosalata There are also the Greek classics, think something like a dip but instead of using nachos or vegetables to eat them we use bread. Taramosalata is one of those dishes.   It is roe fish blended into a creamy pink dip of pureed potatoes with parsley, lemon juice, and finely chopped onion (optional).   In meze, this is one of the first dishes that it is served.   In taverns, they always bring it along with salad, tzatziki, and tahini.   We will talk about the last two later.   Well, let’s see our recipe…   Ingredients 2 kg tarama (fish roe). 1 large potato or two small ones 450gr of Greek bread 1 tsp of shredded and dried onion 1 cup olive oil The juice of one lemon (medium size) Tarama is the hardest ingredient to find, so it is a good idea to look at groceries that import Mediterranean food. It is usually sold in larger jars, but you can store the remainder in the freezer for months. Peel the potatoes and cut t

Barbecue Day

In Cyprus we love barbecue.  We usually have "souvla" or "souvlaki", but last Sunday we decided we wanted something different.  The weather was perfect so we enjoyed a lovely barbecue picnic.

I made some burgers using pork and beef, fresh herbs from our garden and spices.  The pork chops were marinated in soy sauce, herbs and garlic.

The meat was seasoned with sea salt and black pepper.

We usually buy halloumi cheese but this one was my mum's creation!!  Simply delicious!

  3. The meats look perfectly seasoned and delicious. The meats over in Cyprus are always much more tender than what we get here in the UK, for some reason! And the cheese looks great too. It's been too long since my last barbeque.

  14. Looks great but I am thinking about becoming a vegetarian but dont know if I can stick to my guns because it takes a lot of pre-planning and adjusting your diet emotionally and come to a point where you have no resentment about making the change. The reason why is because I am a animal advocate and volunteer so I feel like a hypocrite sometimes for eating and wearing animals...but maybe I am to hard on myself...because I love cheese burgers..
