Taramosalata (Fish roe salad - meze)

Photo taken from Athinorama Umami Taramosalata There are also the Greek classics, think something like a dip but instead of using nachos or vegetables to eat them we use bread. Taramosalata is one of those dishes.   It is roe fish blended into a creamy pink dip of pureed potatoes with parsley, lemon juice, and finely chopped onion (optional).   In meze, this is one of the first dishes that it is served.   In taverns, they always bring it along with salad, tzatziki, and tahini.   We will talk about the last two later.   Well, let’s see our recipe…   Ingredients 2 kg tarama (fish roe). 1 large potato or two small ones 450gr of Greek bread 1 tsp of shredded and dried onion 1 cup olive oil The juice of one lemon (medium size) Tarama is the hardest ingredient to find, so it is a good idea to look at groceries that import Mediterranean food. It is usually sold in larger jars, but you can store the remainder in the freezer for months. Peel the potatoes and cut t

A Tart You Will Never Forget!!

This is my favorite tart recipe. The crust and cream were adopted from Mr. Stelios Parliaros baking program “Glykes Alchemies”. Mr. Parliaros is my favorite confectioner. I have two of his books and believe me, whatever he does is a success. His sweets are like poetry!!!

I used one apple, one pear, one orange, and one strawberry for my final decoration. The final addition to the tart was one or two tablespoons of pistachio nuts.

I do not like using any type of gel on top of this sweet. I find the taste of the fruits much better than the typical gel they usually use on top of tarts.

Since I am not sure whether I can share this recipe with you I will just add a link to Glykes Alchemies. The program is in Greek but I am sure the recipes can be found in English as well.

I hope you like it too!!!

  1. Just yesterday I was at a cooking store in my neighborhood and I picked up a tart dish, stared at it, and put it down. I'm so scared of making tarts for some reason! Yours looks absolutely delicious. The pistachios on top sound awesome!
